This month, the Desi Writers&#8217; Lounge team is sharing its\u00a0reading resolutions: goals for the new year, finally tackling those to-be-read piles. Join the conversation by sharing your resolutions in the comments and on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/desiwriterslounge?ref=br_tf\">Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/desi_writers\">Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, I vowed to follow the hashtag #readwomen2014. As I learned more about the literary world, the gender disparities of the publishing world were alarming. The same fact would keep cropping up: Fiction by men is considered universal while books by women are categorized as &#8216;women&#8217;s interest,&#8221; as if these books are by default not relatable for everyone. I can&#8217;t say I entirely achieved my goal but I definitely became conscious of how many male authors versus female authors I was reading each month. Towards the end of the year, I am happy that I read mostly women writers; Lena Dunham&#8217;s Not that kind of Girl, Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay, and my all time favorite this year, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Station-Eleven-Emily-John-Mandel\/dp\/0385353308\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1420220181&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=station+eleven\">Station Eleven \u00a0by Emily St John Mandel<\/a>. For 2015, I want to keep up this habit but diversify my reading in the following ways:<\/p>\n<p>1. Read more people of color, because as it is white men dominate the publishing industry.<\/p>\n<p>2. Try to include more non-fiction in my reading repertoire. As my main preference is usually fiction, it takes a lot of patience on my part to be interested in non-fiction but as I tried with essay collections in 2014, I can ease myself into reading more challenging non-fiction.<\/p>\n<p>3. This is a long shot and I don&#8217;t know if I will be able to work up the nerve to take the plunge but I&#8217;ve been toying with the idea of starting a book blog or channel where I can record my thoughts about what I read. I really enjoy watching BookTubers on YouTube and reading reviews and I want to contribute to that community. Lets hope I am successful.<\/p>\n<p>Do you have any reading goals for this year?
