Joel Dinerstein is Professor of English at Tulane University and the former Director of the New Orleans Center for the Gulf South. He is the author of two cultural studies on the concepts of cool and swing, respectively -- The Origins of Cool in Postwar America (2017) and Swinging the Machine: Modernity, Technology, and African-American Culture (2003) – and curated the exhibit American Cool at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC.
